This is the privacy policy for Rural King Pet Pharmacy — a licensed 50-state pet pharmacy operated by PetMeds in partnership with Rural King. It explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and how you can exercise your rights. If anything here is unclear, email privacy@ruralkingpetpharmacy.com and a real person will answer.
Section 01
What information does Rural King Pet Pharmacy collect?
Rural King Pet Pharmacy collects four types of information: account information (name, email, phone, shipping address), payment information (processed by PCI DSS Level 1 certified partners and never stored on our servers), prescription and pet information (veterinarian details and pet medical history needed to fill prescriptions), and order history (products purchased, delivery addresses, tracking data). We collect only what we need to fill prescriptions, ship orders, and provide customer service.
To create your account, ship orders, and reach you about prescriptions
Payment
Card type, last 4 digits, billing ZIP, tokenized payment ID
To process payment through PCI DSS Level 1 certified processors. Full card numbers never touch our servers.
Prescription & Pet
Veterinarian name and contact, pet name and species, medication, dosage, refill history
To verify prescriptions with your vet and fill orders safely. Protected as PHI under HIPAA.
Order History
Products purchased, order dates, delivery addresses, tracking numbers
To fulfill orders, process returns, and provide customer service history
We do not sell your data
Rural King Pet Pharmacy does not sell, rent, or trade customer data to third parties. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
We do not collect Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, biometric data, or precise geolocation. We do not track you across other websites. We do not use your pet's data to train AI models. We do not sell any of it.
Section 02
How does Rural King Pet Pharmacy use my information?
We use your information for five specific purposes: to fill and ship prescriptions, to verify prescriptions with your veterinarian, to process payments, to provide customer service and order updates, and to improve the pharmacy experience. We do not use your data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not use it to train AI models.
Filling and shipping orders
Your account, prescription, and order information move through the OMS pipeline so we can pick, pack, and ship your medication. The Vet Portal handles prescription verification with your vet. Tracking data flows back through the OMS so you can see where your order is at any moment.

Customer service and order updates
Every support call, chat, or email becomes a case in Salesforce Service Cloud, linked to your order. Every customer-facing message — order confirmations, shipping updates, callback confirmations — fires from Iterable. You can opt out of non-essential messages from your account or by replying STOP to any text.

Improving the experience
We use aggregated, de-identified analytics to understand how the site is used — which pages get visited, where people get stuck, what searches return no results. This data cannot be traced back to you as an individual and is never sold.
We do not: use your data for advertising, sell your data to third parties, share your prescription data with anyone other than your veterinarian, or use your data to train machine learning models.
Section 03
Who does Rural King Pet Pharmacy share my information with?
Rural King Pet Pharmacy shares information only with the service providers required to operate the pharmacy: payment processors, shipping carriers, prescription verification partners, and pharmacy staff. We do not sell customer data. We do not share prescription information with anyone other than your veterinarian and, when legally required, pharmacy regulators.
Categories of service providers
Payment processors — PCI DSS Level 1 certified partners process your card. They receive the payment token, not the full card number.
Shipping carriers — USPS, UPS, FedEx, and regional carriers receive your name, shipping address, and package contents information needed to deliver.
Prescription verification partners — the Vet Portal connects to your veterinarian's office for prescription verification.
Customer service platform — Salesforce Service Cloud stores your case history and provides the platform our agents use.
Transactional messaging — Iterable delivers order confirmations, shipping updates, and case notifications.
Subscription management — Ordergroove manages AutoShip subscriptions and delivery scheduling.
When we are legally required to share
We may share information when required by law: in response to a subpoena or court order, in response to a request from a state board of pharmacy or the FDA, or when necessary to report an adverse event or prevent serious harm. When we share under legal compulsion, we share only what is specifically required and we notify you unless legally prohibited from doing so.
Business transfers
If PetMeds or Rural King is ever acquired or merged, your data may transfer to the acquiring entity. If that happens, we will notify you in advance and give you the option to delete your account.
Section 04
Is Rural King Pet Pharmacy HIPAA compliant?
Yes. Rural King Pet Pharmacy is HIPAA compliant. All protected health information — including prescriptions, pet medical history, and veterinarian communications — is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is restricted to licensed pharmacy staff on a need-to-know basis, and every access is logged and auditable.
What HIPAA covers here
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) governs how pharmacies handle protected health information (PHI). At Rural King Pet Pharmacy, PHI includes:
Pet name, species, breed, weight, and medical notes required for safe dispensing
Any notes a pharmacist adds during review
Communication history with your veterinarian about a prescription
How we protect PHI
Encryption in transit — all data between your browser and our servers uses TLS 1.2 or higher.
Encryption at rest — every database and backup is encrypted with AES-256.
Access controls — only licensed pharmacy staff can view PHI, and only when it's needed for a specific prescription or support case.
Audit logging — every access to PHI is logged with the user, timestamp, and reason.
Business associate agreements — every vendor that touches PHI has signed a HIPAA BAA with PetMeds.
Breach notification — if a breach ever affects your PHI, we notify you within 60 days, as required by law.
HIPAA · HHS enforced
Section 05
Is my payment information secure?
Yes. Rural King Pet Pharmacy is PCI DSS Level 1 certified — the highest level of card payment security certification, the same standard banks use. Card data is encrypted, tokenized by our payment processor, and never stored on our servers. If you choose to save a card, only a token is stored — never the card number.
What is PCI DSS Level 1?
The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a set of security requirements for any organization that handles credit card payments. Level 1 is the highest tier — it applies to organizations processing more than 6 million card transactions per year and requires:
Quarterly network scans by an Approved Scanning Vendor (ASV)
Annual on-site assessment by a Qualified Security Assessor (QSA)
Full penetration testing of the cardholder data environment
Continuous monitoring and intrusion detection
Documented incident response plan tested annually
How your card is handled
You enter your card on our secure checkout page.
The card data is transmitted directly to our PCI DSS Level 1 certified payment processor.
The processor returns a token — a random identifier that represents the card but cannot be used to charge it without going through the processor.
We store the token and the last 4 digits (so you can recognize which card you used). We never store the full card number, CVV, or magnetic stripe data.
When you place a new order, we pass the token to the processor, which uses it to charge the card.

Right to correct — update any inaccurate information. Most corrections you can make yourself from Account Settings. If something looks wrong that you can't fix, email us.
Right to delete — request deletion of your account and personal data. We delete within 30 days, except records we're legally required to keep (see Section 08).

Payment tokens are deleted immediately on account closure.

Section 10
What is Rural King Pet Pharmacy's policy on children's privacy?
Rural King Pet Pharmacy is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email privacy@ruralkingpetpharmacy.com and we will delete the account and associated data.
Prescriptions for pets can be ordered by anyone 18 or older with a valid prescription and payment method. We don't offer accounts for minors. If a minor needs medication for a pet, a parent or guardian must place the order.
Under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), we are required to obtain parental consent before collecting any personal information from children under 13. Rather than implement a consent flow, we simply do not allow accounts for children under 13.
Section 11
How will Rural King Pet Pharmacy notify me of policy changes?
When we make material changes to this policy, we email every registered customer at least 30 days before the change takes effect, and we post the updated policy on this page with a new "Last Updated" date. Minor changes — like fixing a typo — are made without notice. You can always see the current version at leadreadysite.com/ruralking-privacy.
