These are the terms that govern your use of Rural King Pet Pharmacy, a licensed 50-state pet pharmacy operated by PetMeds in partnership with Rural King. We wrote them to be readable. Section 01

Do I have to accept these terms to use Rural King Pet Pharmacy?

Yes. By using the Rural King Pet Pharmacy website, placing an order, or creating an account, you agree to these terms of service. If you do not agree, do not use the pharmacy. Using the pharmacy means you accept these terms, the privacy policy, and any additional terms we show you at checkout or when you sign up for AutoShip.

What "using" means

You accept these terms when you do any of the following:

  • Browse the pharmacy website
  • Create or log into an account
  • Place an order — with or without a prescription
  • Sign up for AutoShip
  • Call, chat, or email our customer care team

If you do not accept these terms

You can still browse the site without agreeing, but you cannot place an order, create an account, or use any of the pharmacy services. If you have questions about what you are agreeing to, call 1-800-738-6337 before you order.

Additional terms at checkout

When you check out, you will also see the AutoShip terms (if you subscribe) and the prescription acknowledgment. Those are additional agreements you accept when you complete the order.

Section 02

Who can use Rural King Pet Pharmacy?

Rural King Pet Pharmacy is available to United States residents who are 18 years or older and can form a binding contract. Accounts are for personal use only. Prescriptions must be issued by a veterinarian licensed in your state. We currently ship only within the United States.

Eligibility requirements

  • Age — you must be 18 or older
  • Location — you must live in the United States (including Washington DC). We do not ship internationally.
  • Prescription — prescriptions must come from a veterinarian licensed in your state
  • Payment — you must provide a valid payment method in your name or that you have authorization to use

Your account

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. Do not share your password. If you believe someone else has accessed your account, change your password immediately and call 1-800-738-6337. We are not responsible for losses caused by someone using your credentials if you did not notify us.

Personal use only

Accounts are for personal use. You may not use the pharmacy to resell medication, purchase on behalf of others for compensation, or open accounts using false information. We may close accounts that violate this rule.

Section 03

How does Rural King Pet Pharmacy handle prescriptions?

Rural King Pet Pharmacy dispenses prescription medications only with a valid prescription from a veterinarian licensed in your state. We verify every prescription through the Vet Portal by contacting your veterinarian directly, or by reviewing a prescription you upload during checkout. A licensed PharmD reviews every prescription before it ships.

How prescription verification works

  1. You place an order for a prescription medication.
  2. You provide your veterinarian's name and contact information, or upload a photo of the written prescription.
  3. Our pharmacy contacts your veterinarian through the Vet Portal to confirm the prescription is valid and current.
  4. A licensed PharmD reviews the prescription for accuracy, dosing, and interactions before it ships.
  5. If anything is unclear, we call you or your veterinarian before we ship.
Vet Portal · Rx verification OMS · Order pipeline PIM · Product data

Refills

Prescription refills require a current prescription on file. If your prescription has expired, we notify you and ask you to obtain a new one from your veterinarian. AutoShip does not override prescription expiration — you must renew the prescription before we can ship a refill.

Controlled substances

Some medications are classified as controlled substances under federal or state law. Controlled substances may be subject to additional requirements, including signature on delivery. We do not ship controlled substances to states where the specific medication is prohibited.

Prescriptions are a federal matter

Dispensing a prescription medication without a valid prescription is a federal crime. We verify every prescription before it ships. If a prescription turns out to be fraudulent, we report it and cooperate with law enforcement.

Section 04

How do orders, pricing, and payment work?

When you place an order, you agree to pay the price shown at checkout, plus any applicable taxes. Prices are shown in US dollars and may change without notice — but once you place an order, the price is locked. We accept major credit cards, debit cards, and other payment methods shown at checkout. Payment is processed by PCI DSS Level 1 certified partners.

Order confirmation

When you place an order, we send a confirmation email. That email is not an acceptance of your order — it's an acknowledgment. Your order is accepted when we ship it. If we cannot fulfill your order for any reason (out of stock, prescription issue, payment decline), we notify you and refund any payment we took.

Pricing

  • Prices are in USD — all prices are shown in United States dollars
  • Prices may change — we can update prices at any time, but the price at checkout is the price you pay
  • Promotional codes — subject to their own terms. One code per order unless otherwise stated.
  • Taxes — sales tax is calculated at checkout based on your shipping address

What's included in the price

Product cost Yes — shown at checkout
Prescription verification Yes — no separate charge
Pharmacist consultation Yes — free, at your request
Standard shipping Free over $49 · $5.99 otherwise
AutoShip shipping Free, no minimum

Payment methods

Section 05

How does AutoShip work under the terms?

AutoShip is a recurring subscription managed in Ordergroove. You choose the delivery frequency, and we ship automatically on your schedule. You save 15% on every AutoShip order and pay no shipping with no minimum. You can skip, delay, or cancel any shipment at any time from your account, with no penalty.

How AutoShip billing works

  • First order — charged when you sign up
  • Subsequent orders — charged on the day each AutoShip order ships
  • Price changes — if a product price changes, we notify you by email at least 10 days before the next shipment. You can skip or cancel before it ships.
  • Tax changes — if your state changes sales tax, the new rate applies to the next AutoShip order

Changing or cancelling AutoShip

You can manage every aspect of AutoShip from your account:

  • Skip a shipment — skip any upcoming delivery
  • Delay a shipment — move a delivery to a later date
  • Change frequency — every 30, 60, or 90 days
  • Change payment — swap the card or payment method
  • Cancel — cancel any AutoShip subscription with one click

You can also call 1-800-738-6337 and a specialist will make any of these changes for you. There is no cancellation fee and no minimum commitment.

No commitment

AutoShip is not a contract. You can cancel any subscription at any time, for any reason, with no fees and no penalty. That has always been the rule and it always will be.

If a prescription expires

If a prescription on AutoShip expires, we cannot ship the next refill until you provide a renewed prescription. We notify you by email before the next shipment so you can get the renewal from your veterinarian. Your AutoShip stays active — it just pauses until the prescription is renewed.

Section 07

What is the return policy under the terms?

Unopened non-prescription products — including food — can be returned within 90 days of receipt for a full refund, with free return shipping. Prescription medications cannot be returned to inventory per federal regulation but may qualify for a prorated refund up to 30 days after ship. Damage or wrong items must be reported within 72 hours.

Return windows

Category Window Refund
Unopened non-Rx 90 days from receipt Full refund + free return shipping
Prescription medication Not returnable (federal law) Prorated refund up to 30 days post-ship
Damage or wrong item 72 hours from delivery Full replacement or refund
Food & treats 90 days if unopened Full refund
Supplements 90 days if unopened Full refund

How to return something

  1. Log into your account and open Order History.
  2. Select the order and click Start a Return.
  3. Choose the reason (unopened, wrong item, damaged, other).
  4. Print the prepaid return label we email you.
  5. Drop the package at any USPS or UPS location.
  6. Refunds process within 3–5 business days after the return scans in.

Or call 1-800-738-6337 and a specialist will process the return for you over the phone.

Prescription returns are limited by federal law

Once a prescription medication leaves our pharmacy, federal regulation prohibits returning it to inventory. Prorated refunds are available up to 30 days after ship, but the physical medication cannot be sent back. This is not our choice — it's federal law.

Section 08

What is acceptable use of Rural King Pet Pharmacy?

Acceptable use means using the pharmacy for its intended purpose: ordering pet and livestock medication for your own animals, with valid prescriptions, from your own account, without attempting to disrupt or abuse the service. You may not use the pharmacy to resell medication, submit fraudulent prescriptions, or violate any law.

You may not

  • Submit a prescription that is forged, altered, or obtained fraudulently
  • Order medication for resale or distribution
  • Use someone else's account or payment method without authorization
  • Attempt to access accounts, systems, or data that are not yours
  • Use automated tools to scrape, bulk-order, or overwhelm the site
  • Interfere with the site's normal operation or security features
  • Impersonate a veterinarian, pharmacist, or Rural King / PetMeds employee
  • Post or transmit anything unlawful, threatening, or misleading
  • Violate any applicable federal, state, or local law

What happens if you violate these rules

We may suspend or close your account, cancel pending orders, and — if a crime has been committed — report it to law enforcement. We try to resolve issues with a phone call first. But fraud, forgery, and abuse are reported.

If you think your account was used improperly

Call us immediately at 1-800-738-6337. We can lock your account, cancel any pending orders, and investigate. We would rather help you fix a problem than close an account.

Section 10

What disclaimers apply to Rural King Pet Pharmacy?

Rural King Pet Pharmacy provides the site and services as-is. While we work hard to keep information accurate, we do not warrant that every product description, price, or availability is error-free. We are not a substitute for veterinary care — always consult your veterinarian about your animal's health. Medication information on the site is for reference only.

Information accuracy

We work hard to keep product information, prices, and availability accurate. If there is an error, we correct it as soon as we know. If you catch something we missed, call us at 1-800-738-6337.

Not veterinary advice

Content on this site — including product descriptions, health articles, and pharmacist commentary — is for general reference. It is not a substitute for an examination by a licensed veterinarian. Always consult your veterinarian before starting, changing, or stopping any medication.

Service availability

We aim for the site to be available all the time. But websites go down, systems go offline, and phone lines get busy. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access.

Medical emergencies

If your animal is having a medical emergency, call your veterinarian or an emergency animal hospital immediately. Do not wait for a call back from us, and do not use this site in place of emergency care.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Rural King Pet Pharmacy, PetMeds, and Rural King are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the site or services. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for the specific order that gave rise to the claim.

Section 11

What is the indemnification clause?

Indemnification means that if you misuse the pharmacy — for example, by submitting a fraudulent prescription or violating these terms — and that misuse causes a legal claim against Rural King Pet Pharmacy, PetMeds, or Rural King, you agree to cover the resulting costs, including reasonable legal fees. This clause does not apply to claims arising from our own negligence or wrongdoing.

What you agree to

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Rural King Pet Pharmacy, PetMeds, Rural King, and their officers, employees, and agents from any claim, damages, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising from:

  • Your violation of these terms
  • Your misuse of the pharmacy or any product purchased through it
  • Your submission of a fraudulent, forged, or altered prescription
  • Your violation of any law or the rights of any third party

What this clause does not cover

This clause does not require you to indemnify us for claims arising from our own negligence, our violation of law, or anything else we are responsible for. Indemnification is meant to shift responsibility for your own actions — not to shield us from ours.

Plain-English summary

If you do something wrong and it causes us legal trouble, you cover the cost. If we do something wrong, we cover the cost. That's the deal.

Section 12

How are disputes resolved?

Most disputes are resolved by calling 1-800-738-6337 or emailing customerservice@ruralkingpetpharmacy.com. If that does not resolve it, disputes are resolved by binding arbitration through the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, not by class action. You may opt out of arbitration within 30 days of account creation.

Step 1 — Talk to us first

Before starting any formal dispute process, call 1-800-738-6337 or email customerservice@ruralkingpetpharmacy.com. Most disputes are resolved the same day. Give us 30 days to try to resolve it before you start a formal claim.

Step 2 — If we can't resolve it

If we cannot resolve it in 30 days, either of us may initiate binding arbitration. Arbitration is a private process — a neutral third party (an arbitrator) hears both sides and issues a decision. It replaces going to court.

Arbitration details

  • Administrator — American Arbitration Association (AAA)
  • Rules — AAA Consumer Arbitration Rules
  • Location — arbitration happens in the county of your billing address, or by phone/video if you prefer
  • Cost — we pay the AAA filing fee for claims under $10,000
  • Decision — the arbitrator's decision is binding and may be entered as a judgment in any court

Class action waiver

You and Rural King Pet Pharmacy agree that any dispute will be resolved on an individual basis only, not as a class action, collective action, or representative action. The arbitrator may not consolidate claims from multiple people.

Your 30-day opt-out right

You may opt out of this arbitration agreement within 30 days of creating your account. To opt out, email legal@ruralkingpetpharmacy.com with your name, the email on your account, and a statement that you wish to opt out of arbitration. Opting out does not affect any other part of these terms, and it does not affect your account.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, where PetMeds — the operator of Rural King Pet Pharmacy — is headquartered. This does not take away any rights you have under the consumer protection laws of your own state.

Small claims court

Either of us may bring a claim in small claims court in the county of your billing address if the claim qualifies under that court's rules. Small claims court is an alternative to arbitration for smaller disputes.

Section 13

How will Rural King Pet Pharmacy notify me of changes to these terms?

When we make material changes to these terms, we email every registered customer at least 30 days before the change takes effect, and we post a banner on every page. Continuing to use the pharmacy after the effective date means you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree, you can close your account before the change takes effect.

What counts as a material change

  • Changes to eligibility or account rules
  • Changes to pricing, fees, or payment terms
  • Changes to AutoShip terms
  • Changes to the return policy
  • Changes to the arbitration clause or class action waiver
  • Changes to the disclaimers or limitation of liability

What doesn't count

  • Fixing typos or clarifying existing language without changing meaning
  • Updating contact information
  • Reorganizing sections without changing content

How we notify you

  • Email — sent via Iterable to the email on your account
  • Site banner — appears at the top of every page for 30 days
  • This page — the "Last Updated" date and version number change

You can always see the current version at leadreadysite.com/ruralking-terms. We keep a copy of previous versions on file — email legal@ruralkingpetpharmacy.com if you need one.

Quick Answers

Quick answers about the terms of service

Short, direct answers to the questions people ask most.

Do I have to agree to these terms?
Yes, if you want to use the pharmacy. Browsing the site is fine without agreeing, but placing an order, creating an account, or signing up for AutoShip means you accept these terms.
Who can use Rural King Pet Pharmacy?
United States residents who are 18 or older. Prescriptions must come from a veterinarian licensed in your state. We ship within the US only, including Alaska and Hawaii.
Do I need a prescription?
Only for prescription medications. Flea and tick preventives, heartworm medication, food, and most supplements ship without a prescription. For prescription items, we verify with your vet through the Vet Portal.
How does AutoShip billing work?
You are charged when each AutoShip order ships. If a price changes, we notify you at least 10 days before the next shipment. You can skip, delay, or cancel any shipment at any time with no penalty.
What is the return window?
90 days for unopened non-prescription products, with free return shipping. Prescription medications are not returnable per federal law but may qualify for prorated refunds up to 30 days after ship. Damage or wrong items within 72 hours.
Can I opt out of arbitration?
Yes. You have 30 days from account creation to opt out of the arbitration clause. Email legal@ruralkingpetpharmacy.com with your name, account email, and a statement that you wish to opt out. Opting out does not affect your account.
What state's law applies?
Florida law governs these terms, because PetMeds — the operator of Rural King Pet Pharmacy — is headquartered in Delray Beach, Florida. This does not take away any rights you have under your own state's consumer protection laws.
How will I know if the terms change?
When we make material changes, we email every registered customer at least 30 days before the change takes effect, and we post a banner on the site. Continuing to use the pharmacy after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.
